Dr Hoof is a horse doctor and he only treats horses. But when he moves to a new town, he realises that he is the only horse around. It's a one horse town and that one horse is Doctor Hoof! How can he find some new patients and some new friends?
My new picture book with author Diana Kimpton "Doctor Hoof" is out now (1st Aug) from Scholastic.

‘The Fingertips of Duncan Dorfman’

Garry has illustrated the cover of New York Times best selling author Meg Wolitzer’s latest novel ‘The Fingertips of Duncan Dorfman’. Garry’s cover illustration features the hero of the story Duncan, who goes on an extraordinary journey with his scrabble super power which allows him to feel words and pictures beneath his fingers and tell what they are without looking.

Papercuts at the Clifford Chance Annual Pride Art Exhibition

The Clifford Chance show went up on saturday and opens on the 16th. Thankfully the big monster cut out went up smoothly and commands a spectacular view of the city from the 30th floor. I have seven papercuts in the show alongside the other artist's work covering photography, sculpture, painting, film and live performance.

Looking forward to the private view on the 15th!

Curated by Michael Petry, this exhibition features a mix of abstract, conceptual and figurative works by Guy Burch, Maya Chowdhry, Åsa Johannesson, Garry Parsons, Caroline Smith, Robert Taylor and Konrad Wyrebek.

Demons At Clifford Chance

I have the pleasure of showing some of my recent 'Papercuts' at this years Annual Pride Art Exhibition at Clifford Chance including a monster of a big one specially made for the show.
The exhibition is a joint art show with the Clifford Chance New York offices with the London component curated by Michael Petry. The London exhibition will feature a mix of abstract, conceptual and figurative works by gay and lesbian artists.

The exhibition runs from the 13th June to the 22nd July. Floor 30, 10 Upper Bank Street, Canary Wharf, London E14 5JJ . Go see!

You can see two of the papercuts I am showing in February's post. More to view on here once the works are in situ. In the mean time, as a taster for the 'biggy' here is a colour version based on the themes I've been exploring.

Klimb Mascot

Klimb is a group of energetic people who want to raise lots of money for two very worthy children's charities, one in the UK and one in Africa. The group are holding various fundraising events throughout the year culminating in a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro. To help raise funds, I will be hosting the "Big Klimb Illustration Auction" in London on the 6th September (scribble a note in your diary now, it's gonna be fun!) I'm working on the third space adventure from Lucy and Stephen Hawking "George and the Big Bang". In my research for these books I have been enjoying some amazing space related images from the Nasa archives of vintage and modern space exploration and spectacular images from the Large Hadron Collider. I've also come across these few terrific astronaut pics. Take a look! (A couple of mine mixed in there too!)
Watch this SPACE for glimpses of the new illustrations for the "Big Bang" and a recent space inspired story for "Driver Dan's Story Train" appearing on CBeebies some time in the future!

Orvis sell all sorts of countryside stuff including these fascinating guys. What's great about these fishing flies is that at first glance they look like the bugs and flies they pretend to be. On closer inspection they don't at all but are clever mimics made from twine, feathers and acrylic fluff. You can buy them ready made (these pics are from the Orvis catalogue) or make your own. They look fantastic all together in the acrylic display case in the shop. I raved so much the manager gave me a complimentary dragon fly fly but they are surprisingly cheap so start collecting!

I thought it was about time to share some ideas, new work, recent events and other stuff that inspires me creatively.

So as illustration Blog No 1, let's start with two images made last week for my agent Meiklejohn Illustration for the 2011 copy of Contact Illustrators.

AND my favorite published book this year "MOVIE MAKER". Published in September by Templar.

This 'hands-on' book is great for any budding film makers. It is contained in a usable 'clapper board' box, neatly designed and has pull out elements including a CD of sound effects. The graphics are well considered too so I was very happy to have my work in it. The overall finished look is great. It also includes quite a few of my favorite illustrations of the year, one of which has won an award but I'm not to mention any more about it until next year.
